A light microscopic study of 67 cases with primary nephrotic syndrome was investigated and correlated to clinical findings, laboratory data and the response to steroid therapy.
The results were:
1) These were classified into minimal change (11 cases), focal glomerulosclerosis (4 cases), membranous nephropathy (7 cases), mesangial proliferative glomerulonephritis (18 cases), membranoproliferative glomerulonephritis (16 cases) and chronic glomerulonephritis (11 cases)
2) Sex ratio was 4 to 1 of male preponderance.
3) In the minimal change lesion, hypertension hematuria and renal insufficiency were less frequently seen than other renal lesions.
4) Steroid therapy was useful in reducing protein excretion when used to treat patient with, minimal change and mesangial proliferative glomerulonephritis.
5) On the basis of clinical laboratory data, it was difficult to evaluate the full rage of the renal lesions, for which renal biopsy was required for establishing diagnosis.
